About

newheadshot(small)twitterI am a native of Richmond, Virginia, and a high school counselor by profession, but my passion is stories. I also love naps, ice cream, watching cartoons with my kids, and making a fool of myself in public (according to my wife). Oh, and I am an unapologetic BYU fanatic!

Why do I care about stories? When we tell stories, we leave a legacy. The purpose of this site is to share my stories with you and (hopefully) encourage you to share your own stories. My goal is that my personal experiences and journey with writing and publishing will help inspire and guide other storytellers in their journey. I strive to tell meaningful and uplifting stories in the following ways…

NOVELS

I have two adult, inspirational novels in publication. The Greatest Discovery was a regional favorite and won Book-of-the-Year for the Virginia College Stores Association (2003). The prequel, The Greatest Choice, followed in 2007. Both are available in print and ebook format on Amazon.com.

MAIDEN is my first young adult novel (also good for middle grade readers). It is an adventure/fantasy loosely based on Joan of Arc.

I am a proud member of James River Writers based in Richmond, VA.

MUSIC

I. Love. Music! There is a special section of my brain where I have been blessed with the ability to remember any and every song…ever (mostly). Songs, in my opinion, are one of the greatest forms of storytelling. Unfortunately, as much as I would love to create music, I have to settle for creating lyrics. Thankfully, my best bud Justin Young not only has musical prowess, but is sometimes willing to put notes to my words. Our first foray was an inspirational/Christian album – Just For Me. Since, we have worked on more contemporary/pop music. Justin’s album Clean Slate (2012) features two songs that we collaborated on. Feel free to have a listen!

FLASH FICTION

Sometimes there is just an inkling of a story and you have to get it out. To me, flash fiction comes as an exercise in growth. It’s just a scene, but if done well, it can create a world and characters that we want to know more about. I have had my ups and downs with this storytelling, but the sheer act of continually striving to create has helped me become a gooder better writer. Have a look at my short, flash fiction stories and let me know what you think!?

If you have any questions at all about my books, my music, my stories, writing, publishing or just need some encouragement from someone who has been there and is still there, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

All the best,
